I bought this for my daughter, to replace a Wacom tablet. While the display and functionality of the Cintiq is wonderful, it comes with a lot of bulky cords (4), a power converter box that is rather cumbersome, and required an adapter to plug into the computer (another $40). When we got all of that squared away, we discovered that it would not work on her iMac (pre-Intell), so we bought a Mac Book Pro (still required an adapter.) The set up instructions were not clear, and seemed to imply that we needed to purchase a second graphics card in order for it to operate as a display tablet (otherwise, it was just an ordinary tablet.) At this point, I was done, and wanted to return it, only to find out that seller does not accept open boxes. He seemed willing to work with me if I was willing to eat a restocking fee, but after some time on the phone with Wacom, we got it working and decided to call it good enough. It isn't the portable drawing set-up I expected, it has to be plugged into the wall, the converter box, and the computer, and even moving it from room to room is a hassle. In retrospect, I wish we had just ordered a MacBook Mod instead, and had true, wireless portability.
The display is gorgeous, it's responsive with no lag, and a lot of fun to draw on, but an artist needs to be able to pick up and go, draw on location, etc, and you certainly can not do that with a Cintiq. For a few hundred less, you could have a Mac Book Pro modded for the screen to be a full display tablet.... I wish we would have gone that route instead.
